Is There a Bright Future for the KosherSwitch®? (Jewneric.com)

Interesting article on KosherSwitch® by Daniel Wenger on Jewneric.com.  ”The KosherSwitch certainly provides an innovative way to achieve activity on Shabbat that was previously out of reach.”

The author also followed up with an insightful comment regarding the “Shabbosdik” [in the spirit of Shabbos] concerns for KosherSwitch®:

So I think there’s a Punnett Square to be made here: low impact (lights) vs. high impact (TV) and pre-Shabbos (timer) vs. on-Shabbos (KosherSwitch).
Low [lights, etc.] + Pre [timers] = We already do this with timers for lights and hot plates, etc.
High [TVs, etc.] + Pre [timers] = Classic “It’s not Shabbosdik” case of setting your timer for the big football game on TV
High [TVs, etc.] + On [KosherSwitch®] = If you were to put a KosherSwitch on a TV or a washing machine or whatnot; any argument you had against High + Pre is still active here.

Low [lights, etc.] + On [KosherSwitch®] = This is the square in question. We already try to get around certain issues on Shabbos itself (like moving food around to get it warmed the right way or moving the lamp into and out of your closet when you need light – er, I mean, you need the space for something else). For something low-impact, I don’t see why the next generation couldn’t grow up where this entire square becomes permissible too. You and I – maybe we’re too set in our ways to accept that change. But gradually it could well become standard.
